DROOG DESIGN: DO HIT CHAIR

Designers interest in user participation - people able to customise the design. Playing with senses and human emotion in a great way to attract an audience, or in this case a buyer. I think due to humans sensitivity to things this piece is exciting

BILL POSTERS

Using adverts for a space for artistic protest is really effective in inviting the viewer to respond to global issues such as Waste- here Bill is campaigning the 'waste world'. the street art installations aims at huge brands including Nike, Pretty Little Thing, Apple and Gucci and reveal where large amounts of waste and ‘recycling’ from the western world actually ends up.

FELIX GONZALEZ-TORRES: PORTRAIT OF ROSS

I love this highly conceptual and moving piece. The colours are instantly inviting to the corner of the room. The symbolic representation of his late partner Ross Laycock, who passed away from AIDS; it consists of 175 pounds of candy paralleling his partner’s weight. Viewers are encouraged to take a piece of candy and eat it. This action is metaphorical of AIDS victims slow painful death they must endure-slowly dying pain and weight loss representative of the audience allowed to take sweets from the piece.

I found this particular moving and compelling due to this layer of cannibalism/greed and want of our society, as well as the lacking of finding a cure for the huge epidemic. He is effectively bringing awareness through interactions with his audience. Allowing debate and awareness to the controversiality of the subject.

On visiting the Design Museum for my new project Interact, Yuri Suzuki's installation: Sound in Mind examines the relationship between people and their environments. The interactive pieces are playful in experimentation. The way Suzuki allows the visitor to engage with other people in the given space through these large tubes was interesting. I think the  use of  colourful large-scale display's of the product was successful, however the actual sound, although alluring, was not exciting as one would have expected. I think that the interactive element did make the work more memorable due to the humour which complimented the lively tubes scattered around the space.

CHRIS O'SHEA

Chris O'Shea's website is fantastic. The various interactive approaches and the clear communication with his audience is so engaging. I especially liked the on-screen ones where the audience can play with their own figures on a screen. I think the children into an illustrated story-book is so creative, fun and engaging. I love how music plays a role in the development of this project and how the children react to that and the changing scenery.

'Body Swap' (above) - Although the graphics of the screen don't seem to be amazing, the way the body swaps and the scale of your reflection as someone else's body is a really cool way to re-image the way we think what we can do in a humorous way and also more interestingly be in someone else's body for a few minutes to experience what its like to be their height, wear their clothes etc.

response to human movement and touch. Visitors explore tactile interaction. Sway explore our connection to our physical surroundings and is a reflective space.

ROMAN ONDÁK: MEASURING THE UNIVERSE

This time-based project allowed visitors to be included by measuring their varied heights across this room, along with their name and the date. The whole piece showed how the universe is of a collective whole rather than as 'one'. I think it is interesting to watch the video: https://youtu.be/utUGAoFf81A to experience the development of the project and see the concept come to life.
