TRIP TO BARBICAN CENTRE, SKETCHES, ARCHITECTURE, FIGURES MOVING AND SITTING, COLLECT FEELINGS, EMOTIONS SENSES. collection for large meter long mural to be composed by thursday for creation which will make up our class mapping of our personal senses and take backs from the barbican centre. I am excited to see the final outcome. This process of creating endless sketches of surroundings excites me. I do not yet know what I will produce however after today with the amounts of light and nature around the area contrasted with the indoors where people are slumped around could be interesting.

Barbican was full of energy and colour. I enjoy  going out to draw everything I see, with such an inspirational atmosphere all around. I love to capture the essence of the Barbican in its details, especially the architectural areas with people alongside the nature which ended up inspiring my final piece. I enjoy  draw people, for instance, you have to think & draw quick as they tend to move about and change positions.  Nevertheless, even these disadvantages can be turned into a good things- the first one can give you human silhouettes a more casual, quick feel to them and though it wouldn't have many details, it might have just the right ones to capture each person's energy.

My impressions/aspects of the Barbican I want to include in my piece:

In the morning my class went around and looked through each others sketchbooks. Here I got the chance to see how my peers worked practically. It was interesting to see others styles and ways of working. We were told to write feedback and I found this a very useful and exciting task. - here is my feedback sheet:

Playing around and Developing my composition ... learnt about the important of visual placement of key figures with diagonals which the viewer responds too. i found this interesting. put the main figure in the left hand corner, larger than the rest, other figures become smaller as they trail back into the 'forest' which makes up the background.  after creating a general placement thinking about colours and depth. Colour is very important to me. I wanted to show the autumn leaf colour with a sense of that feeling. As well as having the pictorial element I focused on how I felt in the Barbican when combining my sketches, rather than just thinking aesthetically.

I also used various media, as I still wanted to experiment with how my final piece I did the background in thinned down paint and illustrator markers for vivid stark contrasts and pencils and whatever I felt it needed. I can see how the Barbican having plenty of flora has influenced my interpretation - quite a few parts seemed to have a surreal otherworldly place of relaxation and a contemplative working space...

After being satisfied with the A3 work I then wanted to find a way to create these marks on a larger scale for the metre sized paper too also look effective. I thought that some watered-down large stroked of acrylic paints could be useful in the larger trees and some spaces which couldn't be filled fully with markers.

13/11/2019 CONTEXTUAL PRACTICE

Part one.
Reflecting on the talk answer the following in note form.

What do you think is the benefit of working in a studio compared to alone?

Considering your current skills what type of role do you think you are suitable for? Are you for example:
Personable and good at pitching
Good at bringing ideas to life through images

A maker or crafts person
Good at researching and collecting information

Part two.
Write a short biography about yourself as a creative practitioner now. How would you describe yourself and the work you currently make? Use fully constructed sentences in 150 words.

Upload your responses to workflow.

2 GRAPHIC DESIGN TEAMS CAME IN.. DO THIS

14/11/2019

Working on such big scale was amazing. I love producing work on a large scale. I am quick with my work and want to see the final outcome when I develop y work through a collection of strokes and lines. I love seeing the development of m work. I saw the simple beauty of life and humanity - the two balance each other out to create this dynamic composition.

The way this artwork came into life was interesting, because it is actually rather different from my observational sketches - however, it connects them all in a unified, unique style which truly represents the Barbican to me. Through Building up layer by layer, inks, marker pens, small thickish pens, tiny bit of washed paints - mixed media, 1metre by 1.5m. large scale piece of a 'mural'.

decision making point... doing the figures I had to pause for a while to regain the confidence which is clearly shown throughout the rest of the piece. This was difficult because I wanted to represent the figures as I hoped but I liked the rest of my piece os much that I didn't want to ruin it by adding the detail of my figures in. Especially after someone asked me at this point if I had finished so that further made me think maybe I should leave it like this. However I am very happy I did not.

FINAL OUTCOME:

CRIT FEEDBACK- my peers liked the feeling of a community within the space. Seen as an illusion of a working space within a greater environment. They thought the use of white for the chairs was effective and how the figures had uniform- like costume.

Overall I am happy with my final outcome!

I quite like the way it has this illusive quality to it, such never-ending woodlands which take you into this sort of dreamy other-worldly place. I think my palette is good and I am very happy that I went along with my gut to create this on such a scale.
