The presentation project brief was really interesting. -Making a work about about 40 hours that takes 40 hours to make. I became interested in the idea of exploring time, restriction, duration and repetition which focuses on the translation of experience. Although seemingly draughting the thought of having to produce the concepts of time with structure and guide lines, the project became more inviting after exploring different techniques to delve deeper into the project.

During the presentation I noted the important things to keep in mind for throughout my project: such as techniques- Observing and then writing lists, approaches to photography and drawing, memory, observing habits, stream consciousness, then ways of using restrictions- Rules that allow you to carry out the work with set actions in day or night Sets of instructions- (Sol Lewitt, Tehching Hsieh).

In the class today we were told to do a portrait of the person next to us however with a twist we were told to do a continuous line drawing without looking at our page and only to look directly at the person for 10 minutes. At first this felt like a huge challenge however shortly into the exercise I became interested in the ways in which the the mind can trigger the hand to create something not perfect but with an interesting outcome.

TEST 1: rules for myself: produce 6 sketches, 10 mins each In the hour. use orange ink - lines to show the structure and 2/3 other colours to give each image feeling, temperature or texture.

After completing this hour of work, it was extremely time consuming however the outcome I think is quite amazing I am very happy with the size and I think it shows an interesting composition, each have their own quality within the guidelines which I thought would happen as the scheme is the same but because of my rotating my body to face different areas of the room, the drawings became individual.

Throughout the morning I completed my other two tests to show in the tutorial of my potential outcomes to be. I was impressed by my first idea which I had completed on Monday so it was then hard to bring myself outside that initial bubble to formulate other ideas. However after brainstorming and communicating my concepts with others it became easier to develop the ideas.

After presenting my ideas in the tutorial with my tutor and two other students, we spoke and came to the conclusion of what I should schedule to do in the next few days to complete the project. Funnily enough it was my first idea which got the go ahead. I was pleased that the group discuss understood my plan, responded well and were confident in my idea.

In the brief it states, "The most important thing is that the period of time is intrinsic to the final piece. As process is an integral part of this project it is essential that you document your work as it develops." and this was the one bit I struggled with when presenting one of my ideas - my tutor told me to also include a presentation photos - I thought black and white photos to show just the structure, and do some sort of animation or flick-through where I would add the red lines overtop of structures to demonstrate my process so my audience would understand my plan. This set me off in the right direction. I planned out my next day with my guidelines:

paper size - 6cm by 17cm - white

orange ink to show structure - observational drawings only

bring 12 colours with me and add colour where I feel needed necessary dependant on my feelings/weather/

complete 6 sketches in rotation of an area per hour, 10 minutes each.

First my goal was to spent time cutting the papers to right shape and selecting the colours which I felt would communally work together no matter which I chose at the time. After this - get to work.

continued doing research into artists I found interesting during the presentation and furthered my own interests in the concepts of time. Did 6 hours of drawings. The varied yet similar pieces are coming together really nicely, at the moment I am unsure how I will present all my little papers however After seeing the variety I am excited for the outcome. I have combined thin pens and thicker pens to create some depth through the feelings I had and I have realised I have chosen colours for each location dependant on being outside or inside, outside colours ranging from greens, blues and greys whereas the warmer colours, reds, oranges tend to be inside.

Some of the bits I found interesting in particular

Present my pieces - large mural? separate for viewers to engage with - and hold? scattered in a white space - as if the viewer is rotating themselves in a variety rooms/ spaces/ outdoors?
