Definitions:
narrative: "A narrative or story, is an account of a series of related events, experiences, or the like, whether true or fictitious."
"Narrative art is art that tells a story, either as a moment in an ongoing story or as a sequence of events unfolding over time. Some of the earliest evidence of human art suggests that people told stories with pictures. Although there are some common features to all narrative art, different cultures have developed idiosyncratic ways to discern narrative action from pictures."
CONCERTINA BOOK
No text is needed in a concertina book - a clever combination of black and white (with occasional color usually to enhance a subject or background). The background, the objects and the characters throughout the scenes have a beautiful and engaging feel of a simplified environment and story, and the usage of white space is so clever it doesn't feel overdone. I really want such qualities to be seen in my work.
HOKUSAI: 36 VIEWS OF MOUNT FUGI
I have always appreciated Hokusai's works. He is so respectable and his work his so powerful. In his works of Mount Fuji, he creates these beautiful scenes around the subject to show there is so much more going on than the title tells. I love them, the attention to detail and the scenery he engulfs is timeless.
LIFE OF CHRIST;
This is a form of narrative art I find interesting. The clear colours of Christ, and others, which shows nearly who is whoa nd is easy for the audience to understand.
FRANS MASEREEL
ONE OF THE SCENES I PARTICULARLY LIKE- the eroticism and naked women is alluring and I really like how this section is composed with arms and legs flying around. There is a real sense of a narrative forming. its chaotic and a lot is going on. I like how much the artist has been able to fit into one section. and made it look like a whole and understandable rather than a 'mess'.

NORMAN ROCKWELL: THE GOSSIP
This cross section of facial expressions is so effective in telling a narrative of emotion and humor of humanity. The reactions to gossip is so easy for the viewer to understand and interact with. I think this illustration is a great way of making something which is easily transferable.
